- Wake up positive

- Don't skip breakfast
Eating breakfast kick-starts your metabolism, sets you up for the day ahead and gives you the energy you need to get through a busy morning.

- Raise your heart beat
Getting your heart rate up first thing means that your muscles and blood carry and utilise oxygen more efficiently, which helps to keep you switched on throughout the day. Step-ups are very effective at raising the heart rate, and at the same time they'll tone your lower body. Even better, you can do them anywhere.
TIP: Find an elevated surface such as a step or chair (you can use a bench or secure chair if you find a step too low). With your arms by your sides, lift one leg up and place your foot flat on the elevated surface. Bring the other leg up so that both feet are on the surface. Lower back to the floor, one foot at a time. Do 2 sets of 30 reps on each leg, or alternate each step one leg at a time as if you were marching. To make this exercise more challenging, add some light hand weights (1-2kg) or do at a faster pace.
