5 NEW WAYS TO BOOST YOUR MORNING PORRIDGE

Porridgenews
7th Jan 2015

It's a bit chilly out, so what better way to kick start cold winter days than with a warm comforting bowl of porridge? Dreary mornings aren’t always the most motivating, and finding the energy to prepare a healthy breakfast can be a bit of challenge. But waking up your senses with creamy bowl of deliciousness is surely worth getting out of bed for! Check out these five delicious ways to jazz up your porridge this season.

THE ZINGY ONE - ORANGE & POMEGRANATE

Some of our favourite orange varieties come into season this January, giving us a much needed boost of edible sunshine (not literally, obviously!). Add a little Seville orange zest into your porridge or top with clementine sections and pomegranate to give a fresh burst of flavour. It’s easy to prepare and the crisp pomegranate balances the zingy orange – giving you a breakfast bursting with tastiness.

THE NUTTY ONE - CARROT, CINNAMON & NUT

If you’re partial to the flavour of carrot cake, try adding grated raw carrot into your porridge with a dash of cinnamon and sprinkling of nuts. Walnuts, pecans and almonds compliment the carrot and add a tasty crunch. You can always drizzle a little bit of honey or maple syrup on top to satisfy a sweet tooth.

THE FRUITY ONE - RHUBARB, DRIED APPLE & GINGER

We’re always on the lookout for interesting flavours and textures for new and exciting breakfast ideas. Coming into season in February, rhubarb can add a light tartness to your porridge and when topped with the sweetness of dried apple, and a small grating of ginger zest, offers the perfect easy-to-prepare breakfast to help you take on the world! This warming blend is great for gingerbread lovers, and another equally tasty combo includes Comice pears, vanilla and ginger.

THE EXOTIC ONE - COCONUT FLAKES, MEDJOOL DATES & DRIED APRICOTS

Capture the exotic of a summer holiday (paper umbrella optional), with this combination perfect for tropical dreamers. Opt for large coconut flakes to bring a slightly drier texture, and stir diced medjool dates and dried apricots into your porridge. Packed with flavour, this porridge will surely whisk you to faraway lands of sunshine and warmth - and no need to pack your suitcase!

THE ZEN ONE - MATCHA GREEN TEA & SEEDS

A delicious savoury option, this porridge can be enjoyed as a simple combination on its own or as the base for adding all sorts of tasty extras. Make the tea first by dissolving matcha powder in hot water and stir until silky smooth, then add to your choice of milk or plain yoghurt. Swirl into the porridge and top with seeds such as flax or poppy. If matcha is not your preference, try infusing with your favourite tea – it works particularly well with earl grey or chai. Just be careful to balance your milk and tea so the porridge doesn’t lose its richness!

It’s easy to see why porridge is such a popular breakfast option – its versatility means you could have a different breakfast every day using just a handful of ingredients. There’s variety in our porridge range from our deliciously chewy Chunky Traditional Porridge for lazy Sunday mornings, to our moreish Quick and Creamy Porridge for manic mid-week.
