Pensthorpe Nature Reserve
Bill Jordan and his wife Deb feel so strongly about the conservation of British wildlife and sustainable farming that they bought a farm and nature reserve in Norfolk. Pensthorpe is set in 500 acres of beautiful Breckland countryside, with miles of nature trails to explore through ancient fen meadows, woodland and a superb series of lakes. Pensthorpe is working with Natural England to return the reserve to a system of more sustainable agriculture using rare British livestock breeds to help create traditional grassland habitats and wildflower meadows.
Much is due to happen at Pensthorpe during the next 12 months. The farm has converted to Conservation Grade farming supplying premium grade barley and oats to Jordans Cereals. Conservation Grade demands a greater commitment to wildlife than any other farming system. There will be extensive upgrading of walking trails with improved access to the wider countryside through self-guided walks and interpretative tours.
