Our philosophy
We are passionate about certain principles and these have always influenced the way we run our business.
What we eat:
We have always believed that natural food is better for you and for the environment. That’s why we source only the very best natural ingredients making sure that they are grown to our own high environmental and quality standards and are processed without using any artificial colours, flavours, preservatives or GMOs.
The way we run Jordans:
We know that the way in which we do business has an impact on the world around us and we work hard to ensure that this impact is constructive and positive rather than damaging. Because our main ingredient is grain, we insist that all our oats, wheat and barley are organic or Conservation Grade, which is grown in a way that benefits the countryside.
Bill Jordan started the Conservation Grade farming scheme back in 1985 - to increase the levels of natural wildlife on the farms that supply Jordans by dedicating 10% of the land to wildlife conservation. In return, we guarantee the farmers a premium for their grain. We now have 60,000 acres of land dedicated to Conservation Grade farming in the UK; a farming method that is scientifically proven to increase wildlife numbers.
We’ve made a clear commitment to reduce our carbon footprint and are working with the Stockholm Institute at the University of York to reduce this right through our supply chain. All of our cereals are grown and milled in the UK. Those ingredients that we can’t grow like tropical fruits and nuts are sent by sea rather than air freighted. Our factory uses the latest energy-efficient processes and we recycle everything we can. We have an ethical trading policy to ensure our suppliers work in the same way that we do, because we prefer to do business with like-minded people.

The British Farmer:
We believe in supporting British farmers and British business and are proud to have established a reputation for honesty and integrity in our dealings with the countryside community. We have paid the British farmers who supply us with our Conservation Grade cereals a guaranteed premium for their grain since 1985, and our breakfast cereals and cereal bars are still made in Biggleswade by local people, many of whom have worked for us for generations.
The Countryside and the environment:
Finally, we believe in actively conserving our beautiful natural British countryside. As well as supporting Conservation Grade farmers, we’ve helped to protect the countryside along the River Ivel, where our flour mill is based, for more than 25 years. In addition we also have our own Nature Reserve, at Pensthorpe in Norfolk. Run by Bill Jordan and his wife Deb - Pensthorpe is actively engaged in high profile conservation projects to bring back rare bird species such as the European Crane and conserve native British wildlife like the red squirrel. see www.pensthorpe.com
