Plans to help reduce household waste have been drawn up by the Environment Secretary, Hilary Benn. To help prevent the 8.3 million tonnes of wasted food we in the UK throw away each year households will be encouraged to compost thier leftovers and waste, or councils may begin collecting food waste for conversion to energy through anaerobic digestion. Lundy Island gets in the zone

Applause for the news that the first marine conservation zone in the UK has been set up in the waters around Lundy Island, just off the Devon coast. Lundy Island is home to a variety of wildlife including grey seals, lobsters and corals. Thanks to the 2009 Marine Act a network of these zones will be set up around the UK to help protect wildlife.
